C.S Lewis is one of my favourite authors. Whilst being bally clever, he never paraded his intelligence on paper merely to show off. He seems, in his writing, to be ‘the genuine article.’ Yesterday I was doing some research for a book I am working on and came across yet another quote by him that arrested me. It was this:

“There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, “Thy will be done,” and those to whom God says, “All right, then, have it your way.”

I read this with trepidation in my spirit. How many times have I been guilty of not saying to Father ‘Have your way in my life!’? I am sure there have been many, many occasions. I know that God never forces His way into people’s lives. That is not His way.

Now is the time when people start to assess the year gone by and think about the things they would like to do differently in the next year. Gym memberships rocket in January, lettuce sales go up and more people are seen puffing their way round parks.

But there is more to life than physical fitness. How fit are we inside? How often do we really check who is running the show? I want to be someone who says ‘Thy will be done God.’ Do you?

I am still trying to read the Bible in 90 days. So far, I am way behind… but I learning a huge amount. One of the threads that I keep picking up, time and time again is that God is a merciful God who is always right.
A line I read today said this. ‘Every one of God’s promises came to pass, just as He said.”

I want to give my life to a God like that.
Thank you Charles Staples Lewis – not only for your wonderfully splendid middle name – but for continually reminding me of incredible truths about my God and my faith in Him.
