Ok this is a bizarre thing.
You know when Jesus said to the devil that ‘Man shall not live on bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God…’? Well until yesterday, I had not realised that that could be taken literally.

But I actually think it could be meant as a literal as well as a metaphorical word. As you know I am experimenting with the fasting thing a little. In my search for the deeper things of God I am denying myself various things for a few days and trying hard to fill the gaps with things I know are godly pursuits.

Yesterday I didn’t feel all that hungry. But by the evening I felt a bit weak. I didn’t feel like reading the big portion of Scripture assigned for the day. But I made myself a drink of hot water and, slightly heavy heartedly, began my reading.

I wasn’t reading a gospel, or anything easy going. In fact, it was the end of the Levitical code… so not always pleasant or fun. But as I read, a physical sensation came over me that I have not experienced before. I started to feel that I was eating.

If you had asked me what I was tasting, it definitely had a sweetness. I had had to bake some scones and cakes last night for a meeting, so the smell of those were lingering in the air… But that wasn’t quite it. I think it was more like the taste of honey, but much more satisfying.

But as I went to bed, I had the sensation of having eaten.

This morning I woke up and repeated my experiment. The same thing but to a lesser degree, occurred.

All I can say is that I like how God feeds me…
Does His food contain calories do you think?
