On Sunday, a lady at church had a prophetic word for me. It was “Nothing will be stolen from you.”

What precious words!

That evening I was leading worship and chose to sing the song “One thing remains…”

I have just got back from a retreat. I stayed in one of the most simple, yet beautiful rooms I have ever had. It was in a converted church and my flat contained a wonderful stained glass window of Jesus welcoming the little children.

As I arrived, the very first thing God led me to was the story of Mary and Martha. I have always identified myself with Martha, a lady who I sympathise and empathise with hugely… But as I looked into the story again, I realised that I have transitioned and now have more in common with Mary, her sister. I rejoiced that I have finally started to learn how to sit at Jesus’ feet! It’s taken me nearly 40 years…!!

The phrase that Jesus speaks to Martha when she complains about having too much work to do is very telling.

“Martha, Martha. You are worried and upset about many things. But only one thing is needed… Your sister has chosen that and it will not be taken from her.”

The thing I was drawn to was that quiet little phrase “only one thing.” We can make things so complicated and busy… time can become so stressful and squeezed… our dairies can be frenetic and crazy… and we wonder why we feel spiritually emaciated.

One thing is needed and this cannot be stolen from us.
Praise God for His words and His favour.

The words of the song “One thing remains” are

Higher than the mountains that I face
stronger than the power of the grave
constant in the trial and the change
One thing remains

Your love never fails, never gives up
never runs out on me

Perhaps you can spend some time listening to this song (see link below) and asking God how you can focus on ONE THING today, sitting with Jesus, at His feet, the place of submission and intimacy.
