One of my best friends is fond of saying that you need to make the main thing the main thing.. or the first thing, the first thing. In other words, to remember your priorities and live by them.

Esther said her first word on Thursday last week. It was “Jesus.”
(And yes, I did cry!)
She now says it with her little hand raised in the air, smiling.
She is very good at copying her Mummy!
I hope that Jesus will be her ‘first love’ as He is mine.

Our family worship times will no longer be us worshipping and her watching. She can join in with us all! She has begun to ‘sing’ too. A little earnest expression comes over her face and she sings out a pretty tone and babbles. She has just learnt to clap too. Truly the sweetest thing EVER. The boys think she is wonderful!

As I told you yesterday, I have set out to read the Bible in the next 89 days. Another first. So, I keenly began to read my first portion of scripture last night. I’ll be honest with you. It was hard work! I don’t think I have ever spent so long just reading the Bible before…

BUT guess what?

I learnt five new things about God. FIVE! One of which brought me to tears…
As I read the part of Genesis assigned for me, I had to read one verse a number of times. I had always thought that the rainbow God drew in the sky was a sign for us; so that WE would remember His promises.

Apparently not.
Genesis 9:14-15 says
“Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you…”

The rainbow was the first visual reminder to God, and the whole of heaven, that He would never destroy us. Yes, it is meant as a symbol to us too… but primarily it was God’s dazzlingly decadent post-it note.

MEMO TO ME (GOD):
I WILL ALWAYS LOVE WHAT I HAVE MADE

That thought made me weep.
God will never again destroy the earth.
He has committed to loving us even when we forget Him, dishonour and disobey HIm.

So that little gem was not bad for a first day.
I’m looking forward to what I read today now!
Todays reading is Genesis 17 to 28:19
Join in! Its fun!
