Having a TV producer as my husband means that I have sat through my fair share of ‘How they made it’ documentaries. I also find them fascinating. I can now be quite geeky about a great shot, beautiful lighting or a clever idea. I have also read a few scripts and programme treatments as well as tried my hand at writing a few with Jon. (We are currently penning one for Cbeebies involving mischevious Radishes, a cautious cabbage, and, of course, an obligatory singing aubergine…)

This script will be performed live by puppeteers, but I was reminded the other day that in animated films the voices are recorded first. The chosen actors pre-record their lines in studios, and animators then construct the movement of the characters around the dialogue.

There is a well-known Psalm (139) that explains how God, the ‘Director’ of our lives, knows when we ‘sit and when we rise.’ He knows every movement we will make, every word scripted, every gesture and, amazingly, every thought too.

He has already seen the ending and He knows how the characters and the plot fit together. I find this really comforting at a time when I have so many question marks… How will this or that happen? When will this occur? Who will be there? What will I need?
I don’t know, but I know Father does.

When Joshua was told to capture Jericho, God said to him, ‘I HAVE delivered Jericho into your hands.’ (Joshua 6:2) It does not say ‘I will… Or I can… Or I may…’ God is very definite here.

What has God already promised to deliver into your hands? What are you wasting your time trying to ‘animate’ into your own story? Remember that the script is already completed.
