Yesterday I walked up my road as usual to pick up my boys. It was busy with school-run Mums and Dads, purposefully wheeling small scooters and buggies in a hurried manner, making sure they wouldn’t be late for their “little darlings.”

Unusually, I did not have Esther with me. “Sans buggy” is a strange feeling for me after 7 years of constant pushing, so, I was enjoying the freedom of “do-see-do-ing” in and out of foot traffic, unimpaired by four, not always obedient wheels.

As I reached the crest of the hill, I saw a lady coming towards me. I turned to my left, as she turned to her right. Seeing we were about to collide, we BOTH turned the opposite way. We ended up bumping into each other even though there was no one else on the sizeably wide pavement!

We laughed, a little awkwardly, apologised and carried on walking.

I was drawn to this tiny incidence at the time and again this morning. God used it to say something quite profound to me. He said this:

The enemy knows which way you will turn to avoid things and he will seek to place something or someone else in your path to distract you.

As I dwelt on that again today, I realised how true this is, but also felt God remind me of how much greater HIS paths are for us. I have met some crazy people at some crazy times in some crazy ways. I am sure you have too? Some of those we collide with are meant for our good and our blessing. But we also need to be aware today, and every day, that the enemy prowls around us, he skulks and he watches. He is on the look out to make us collide with those who will set us off course.

May you and I keep on the straight and narrow and only bump into those who will do us good, and vice versa.
